THE FUNK BOX TO ROCK FEDERAL HILL
400+ seat capacity, live performance venue will feature national acts

BALTIMORE, MD (August 1, 2003) - For concert fans in the Baltimore Metropolitan area, the ability to see, hear and experience a live musical performance in an intimate setting is about to change. The Funk Box, a 400 plus seat live performance venue, will officially open Thursday, September 4, 2003 with a series of national touring acts to be announced at a later date.

The Funk Box, formally the Eight by Ten, is designed to give touring and emerging artists the opportunity to extend their creative impact and strengthen their connection to the fans. "This is more than a live performance venue," stated Dave Rather, a principal with the Funk Box. "We've built a visually stunning club that is acoustically superior with multiple site lines to ensure the concert-goer can connect to the performance."

The Funk Box, an 8,000 square foot, multi-level $2.5 Million redevelopment of a historic landmark, is a state-of-the-art live performance venue that will feature a Meyer sound system, acoustically engineered interior and on-site box office, in a slick, upscale, urban décor. Specialty features include an "elastic, spring-loaded dance floor", a specialized dance floor mounted on fixed joints and springs, with an overlying floor surface that allows those dancing or standing, to gain a sense of springiness that a rigid floor is unable to provide. Additionally, behind one of the two full service bars, will be a "Mood Wall," a multi-color changing wall of lights that reacts to the heat emitted in the room.

"The Funk Box is much more than just another nightclub in Baltimore," said Tim Walther, president of Walther Productions. "It's the beginning of a new era of quality live club shows where the bands and the fans alike will appreciate the efforts we have made to do things right."

The Funk Box is located at 8-10 East Cross Street in the heart of Federal Hill on the site of one of the city's most historic live music venues, the Eight by Ten. The Funk Box, which holds the only live music license in Federal Hill, will feature live music for the blues, funk, rock, jazz, R&B, pop, bluegrass, reggae, alternative, Latin, salsa, fusion, alt-country, dance, world, Zydeco, ska, progressive, world beat and hip-hop fan. The Funk Box will feature productions from Walther Productions as the primary in-house talent buyer, and IMP as outside talent buyer. The Funk Box will also entertain productions from other independent promoters. Tickets can be purchased 7 days a week at the box office or by visiting thefunkbox.com. Additionally, The Funk Box will be Ticketmaster's only Federal Hill outlet where tickets will be available for all Funk Box shows and other Ticketmaster events.

The Funk Box enlisted some of the finest contractors for the redevelopment phase including: Ultimate Creations lighting, DBS Audio sound engineers, Miller, Beam and Pagnelli acoustic engineers, Parameter architecture, and Hencken and Gaines as the general contractors.
